Born on a picturesque fall day while orange and cinnamon-colored leaves danced happily in the wind as they heard her cry, Christina emerged, making her grande entrance onto mother earth. Cameroonian by blood and West Indian by cultural heredity, Christina Ghansiwiyie Dzenyuy (sounds like "Zen-U-We") has an unforgettably powerful presence that comes from confidence in knowing who she is and from where she has come.
Growing up in a place few would consider a performing arts community, her hometown of Hartford, CT, is where she honed her performing arts skill set. Christina - whose stage name is C.Dzen - started performing in her North End neighborhood at the tender age of six, from Modern, Tap, Jazz and African Dance at The Artists Collective to singing as a member of the Hartford Camarata Conservatory’s Children’s Chorus. As a youth, C.Dzen began solidifying her foundation in the performing arts.
Christina graduated cum laude from Howard University with a B.B.A. in International Business - Marketing. She studied French during the summer of 2001 in Aix-en-Provence, France and was a first-soprano vocalist in The Howard University Gospel Choir. In 2005, she graduated from Full Sail: Real World Education with a Musical Engineering degree and co-produced, wrote and engineered most of the music on her debut album, C.Dzen's Season. A registered BMI songwriter, C.Dzen owns her own independent publishing company, CDzen Entertainment.
Her community is truly her heart. Christina has tutored at Good Shepard Ministries’ Primary Plus Day Care Center where she also produced, directed, and starred in a charity benefit concert titledThe Seven Virtues. Additionally, she was a U.S. Dream Academy mentor in Congress Heights, Washington, D.C. More recently, she has been featured in the Bermuda Sun for her benefit concerts that assist physically ailing Bermudians cover certain of their medical costs.
“Yes indeed, I tutor, mentor, sing, dance, make people laugh and do whatever I can to give back. I think we’re all here on this earth for a reason, living out some divine plan. While I’m here, I might as well make someone else’s day a bit brighter. Shine my light so that they can unconsciously shine theirs. My sole purpose on this earth is to give of myself, to give back...especially through music. I would prefer to do it musically all the time, but wherever I am called, I make a point to listen and go. So, I volunteer my time and energy to those who need my attention. For what better way to use my voice than with my heart.”
